Megayachts: floating kingdoms or albatrosses?
A megayacht is the most complex, most exposed, and most symbolically loaded of the legacy assets I counsel families about. It is a mobile estate, a small hotel that never closes, a power plant in a corrosive environment, and—depending on flag and itinerary—a quasi-diplomatic platform with its own compliance stack. To the outside world it reads as arrival. To the owner it can become either a sanctuary of freedom or a gilded cage that consumes cash, attention, and goodwill.
